You can also find models that can mop and charge on their own which can be beneficial for those with children or pets. Many of the top performers in our tests also offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. This makes the i3+ an excellent choice for people who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.
Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ does not have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we test. It can be stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as rug and hardwood.
iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes putting away any clutter or toys it might encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filter free of dirt to prevent them from getting blocked. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station, and it automatically emptys the dirt into the docking station's dust bin. It then continues cleaning from where it left off. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use. It takes around three hours to fully recharge.
2. iRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line, and it comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot using the app or voice.

The biggest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin that eliminates the main sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.
We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is a sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system captures allergens, and then releases fresh air into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large particles and fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It quickly converts from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum and back.
This model has a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also gives easy access to 2 attachments and the Wand. This is a big improvement over older Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's biggest drawback is its short run time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical, not an exceptional, time for a battery-powered cordless vac. It's enough time to vacuum the average-sized home, but not enough to reach every area. (A second run usually works). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better for carpet floors with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums the 694 is an affordable model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to spend too much on a robotic. It was able to remove the majority of types of debris in our testing and often went over the same area multiple times for an efficient clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach the corners and the edges of walls.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It can get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better able to navigate its own. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.
The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels better-built and has a stronger motor, and works better on floors that are bare and low-pile carpet, while providing a wider array of features for automation.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's not a surprise, then, that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has a cutting-edge onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.
The app provides plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments, docking frequency settings, and much more. The app is simple to learn and use similar to other Samsung devices.
In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It was not as successful in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. robot cleaner was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and could be a problem for some shoppers.
